When to refer

1. Sick note indicates employee unable to work due to stress, depression or anxiety

2. Employee is off sick with a physical problem but you feel there may be an   underlying psychological issue hampering recovery and return to work.

3. If an employee is still in work but struggling to cope.
Examples of changes in behaviour that might indicate an underlying problem are:

  • Frequent short absences from work
  • Poor timekeeping
  • Irritability and general lack of cooperation with colleagues
  • Decreased productivity
  • Lack of concentration
  • Poor decision making
  • Poor memory
  • Feeling tired all the time
  • Decreased interest in work
  • Displays of anger
  • Withdrawal from colleagues, less sociable
  • Tearful
  • Lack of confidence

When you raise these issues with your employee it may be useful to have to hand details of support they access quickly. You can suggest a referral to AHM which will give them the opportunity to speak in confidence about their problems and start to find a way to resolve them. Please do contact us if you would like any guidance on managing an employee issue: 01223 441744 or lorna@andersonhealth.co.uk
